Facebook – with more than 1.2 billion users worldwide – is celebrating its 10th birthday amidst challenges surrounding it of keeping its original base of young users with new innovative social networks coming to the fore. The company was launched byMark Zuckerberg on February 4, 2004,along with Dustin Moskovitz, Eduardo
Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Chris Hughes from Harvard University.Initially the site was conceived as a way to connect students, and let them build an online identity for themselves and was named facemash.

In a message, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said: “It’s been an incredible journey so far, and I’m so grateful to be a part of it. It’s been amazing to see how people have used Facebook to build a real community and help each other in so many ways. In the next decade, we have the opportunity and responsibility to connect everyone and to keep serving the community as best we can.”
On February 4 Facebook will launch a gesture that will help peoples who have been part of the community for 10 years, It will be a“A Look Back” product, an experience that enables people on Facebook to see a personalized movie or collection of photos with their biggest moments since they joined Facebook.
According to company's latest figures the Facebook has expanded to a large part of the world with 1.2 billion active users.Zuckerberg, who turns 30 in May, reflected on the 10-year milestone at an industry conference in Silicon Valley last week.
Even though it had been a good journey for Facebook but the times ahead would be very  difficult for Facebook due to good signs of progress shown by Social networking sites such as Pinterest, Twitter and SnapChat eating up its teen user base rapidly.
